Recently I got a speeding ticket. Not a big one, but still not cool.
Anyway.
So I went to the municipal court to pay it because when I had my last ticket, about two years ago, I went to the Caisse Desjardins (basically a bank) to pay it, as someone told me to do. However at the time the bank told me it wasn't possible to pay a ticket there anymore.. I had to go to the municipal court.
So there I were today with my ticket at the municipal court, ready to pay. However the lady at the counter seemed a bit confused and told me that I had to go to the justice court to pay my ticket..
After crossing the city I arrive at the justice court, again with my ticket. But this time I ask first
if I am at the right place to pay it.
She replied; it depends.. are you within the 30 days period ?
Me: Uh, well yes..
Oh OK, then you must go to the Caisse Desjardins.
And of course it's 4:30h and the bank close at 3:00h.
Update:
Today I went to the Caisse Desjardins to pay the damn ticket .. but they would not accept my bank card. They said I would have to use the ATM.. with 3$ transaction fees. What a fucking racket. I crossed the city once more to withdraw the money at my bank, just to not give a dime to these crooks.
You'll have to explain to me why they are crooks. They are actually providing a service to you. It costs money to fill up an ATM, transfer money from institution to institution, verify transactions, etc.. And it costs money to transfer money to the government (you had to speak with a teller, after all).
There is no such thing as a free meal.
@Nicolas A. Berard-Nault
You are right, however I already pay monthly fees that cover this kind of transactions.. at my bank.
The reason I was charged 3$ was because I was not a client of the Caisse Desjardins, which is fair enough.
What's not fair is the agreement between the Caisse Desjardins and the S.Q.
Since the Caisse is the only institution where you can pay your ticket, all the members of the Caisse are not subject to this 3$ fee when paying at the counter.
As far as I know the S.Q. is a public institution paid by our taxes. So I should have the same payment options as everybody else and shouldn't be subject to additional fees because I'm not with the "right" bank.
I now I should never attribute to malice that which can be explained by stupidity, but sometimes it's just too hard.
